Outside my window the sun is shinning brightly but the temperature is cold. Still it is forty degrees warmer than last week so I am not going to complain! We have great snow cover to match our cold temperatures. Our son has been sledding several times but dmd seems to have outgrown this and has only gone once with the rest of the family.
I am thinking about the presidential inauguration tomorrow.
I am thankful that we have had heat during this cold spell, that all of our cars continued to run, none of pipes broke, and everyone has stayed healthy.
From the learning room; We are finishing up our study on Rome this week. They still have a research report on a Roman emperor and a book report due but this is a major accomplishment! Our problem is that we love history and we get caught up in the stories, taking much longer than we should to finish a study! At coop today I am completing a study on modern Israel with the oldest group of children. We have been using the Internet to do the research on databases. It has been a fun and interesting study.
From the kitchen; I used some of the frozen pie filling and made an apple crisp and then whipped up two dozen oatmeal applesauce cookies. The cookies were so chewy! I got the recipe from Martha Stewart's cookie book. I can't wait to try out a couple of other recipes I spotting in this book!
I am wearing a long denim skirt, red turtleneck sweater and my sneakers.
I am creating a home keepers notebook for my daughter. As an elective course I want her to develop specific skills relating to the home. Very much in the beginning stages of this planning but I will plan to share more as I get more thoughts put together on how it will function.
I am going to coop today.
I am reading: I hit the jackpot at the library last week and have been pursuing the following titles; The House Always Wins by Marni Jameson, The Gentle Art of Domesticity, Household Wisdom, Novel Destinations, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day, How to Grow Organic
I am praying: for our oldest daughter. It is her first day of student teaching today. The first day of her last semester at college. I am praying that it is everything she has hoped it would be.
I am hearing; a variety of noise. My nieces are on the computer playing games, my children have Thomas Kincaid in the DVD player working on their art lesson, and I have a radio program going.
Around the house; I am working on making furniture polish. I have in my possession a hunk of beeswax and by some magic formula, putting this in a jar with turpentine, lavender oil. cedar wood oil, and sandalwood oil after a week I am to have a fabulous furniture polish. We use virtually no plastic cooking or storage containers in the kitchen. Most everything I have is glass, which has such great potential for finger prints and build up. One of the other hints was to put vinegar in your rinse water to prevent those things. Changing how I wash dishes slightly.
One of my favorite things is my tall brown boots.
A few plans for the rest of the week; This week is going to be a very busy one with a couple additional activities that are out of the ordinary. We have a supervising teacher meeting Tuesday morning. Since her house is near a pizza hut we are going to use up some book it certificates. Then we will be running to cross train and piano. Thursday we have science club and bible study. Friday I am taking the children roller skating with some friends. Wednesday will be our only full day at home, which is pretty unusual for us.
