Outside my window

Out of the bosom of the air

Out of the clouds fold of her garments shaken

Over the woodlands brown and bare

Over the harvest fields forsaken

Silent and soft and slow

Descends the snow

Longfellow

I am thinking

To be happy at home is the ultimate result of all ambition, the end to which every enterprise and labour tends.

Samuel Johnson The Rambler, November 10, 1750

From the learning room

One of the interesting things about home schooling is the amount of interesting experiments that find there way into my kitchen. This past week we have a plant growing in a biosphere, bananas covered in yeast, and this celery stalk soaking up blue food coloring.

DMD daughter started a cake decorating class last week.

This is her cake for class tonight.

They will be working on transposing a design

In my kitchen

Friday - pizza

Saturday - bean burgers

Sunday - lentil soup

Monday - small group

Tuesday - chili cornbread

Wednesday - chicken salad sandwiches

Thursday - breakfast bake

I am wearing

a grey knit skirt, white t shirt, and black flannel zip up

I am praying

prayers of thanksgiving. We recently made a couple of major decisions based on what we believed God's will for us was. God has been so kind as to continue to confirm one of the decisions. It has been very encouraging to us and we are thankful to know that we are within God's will!

I am reading
I read a book called Crazy Love by this past week. My favorite quote from this book is, "When you get your own universe you can do whatever you want." This is one of the my favorite books that I have read in a long time. I highly recommend it!
I am hearing

Rosetta Stones Italian program and the news as I watch cancellations come in.

One of my favorite things

is embroidery! Below is a picture of the Iowa state map project I am working on. Each state will be a different stitching technique. The M in the corner stands for Morningside College where DOD graduated and also has the year of her graduation. Only 91 more counties to go!

I spent part of my weekend cutting up denim into squares for a denim quilt.

This is a baby quilt DMD and I are working on. A friend has been kind enough to take many hours to teach us the process!

Around the house

This is a picture of my DYS's bedroom all clean out.

We stripped the wallpaper and began painting.

Picture of almost finished room. Mr. still needs to trim out the room and we need to purchase another mattress for the bunk beds. I have a bookshelf I am going to refinish in black to add to the room and I would really like to apply a saying to the walls in black calligraphy.

A few plans for the rest of the week

We will be going to the civic center this week for an educational performance and also spending one afternoon at a local YMCA swimming and playing in the gym. Both events have been much looked forward to!
