Simple Womans Day Book

Monday March 23, 2009

Outside My window the lights are back on! Our town was without power for several hours this evening due to heavy winds. We just lit our emergency candles and played cards. DMD's bunny enjoyed being let out and having full run of the house this evening. She has never let him out to roam before. DMD is an anxious mommy!

I am thinking about my DOD who is away at school and sick! It is always hard to determine what needs to happen when you are so far away. I asked her if she needed to go to the doctor and she said, "I'm sure I'm fine. I just don't like being in charge of myself!"

I am thankful that spring is on its way. The picture below was taken in our Garden this weekend. We spent most of the day Saturday enjoying a beautiful day outside, trimming up plants, moving our raised beds closer together and raking up the last few remaining leaves. These little buds were peeking out of the ground.

From the learning room; the kids are "on their own" for the next week. I have a major project that I am working on for my husband and then we leave town for trade shows. We are on maintenance mode with school work, doing the bare minimum and only the things that don't require heavy mom time. One of the benefits of home schooling is that the kids have been trained to independent study. They know what is required of them and they have the habits and training to do their work and do their work well without heavy supervision from me.

From the kitchen;
M- Crock pot chicken
T- chicken roll ups
W- out
Th - soup and sandwiches
Fr - pizza
Sat - stuffed shells
Sun- our last home cooked meal for awhile. What will it be?

I am wearing a denim skirt and navy blue top.

I am going to bed soon! Its been an odd Monday of us. I went to work at our store today so we did not get to play with my nieces. There was no Coop. I spent most of the day thinking it must be Tuesday!

I am reading a nice relaxing book by Lori Wick called To Know Her By Name.

I am praying for my DOD who is sick at school. DMD is down with a sore throat. I have been under the weather since last week. Not good when we are about to hit the road for a month! I am also remembering to pray for our friends who are on their way to Columbia to get their newly adopted daughter and our friends who met their new daughter for the first time in China today.

I am hearing the hum of electronics! Its amazing how silent the house is when the power is out. I never notice the white noise until it shuts off. Then it is very quiet!

Around the house; Mr. and DYS built new compost bins for me this weekend. Mr. also put in the uprights for the grape arbor. The beds are all tilled and ready for plants when we get back from our trip.

A few plans for the rest of the week; Hi ho Hi ho its off to work I go! We also have our embroidery class on Thursday. DYS turns 12 Saturday so we have two birthday parties this weekend. One for his friends, and one for our families. I will be teaching the preschool Sunday school class on Sunday morning. They are a fun handful! Most of Sunday will be spent packing. We leave next Monday morning. Its going to be a crazy week!

One of my favorite things is embroidery. This is a dish towel that I finished last week. I think it is amazing how woman, who worked so hard just to care for their families daily needs, took time to make their everyday items like dish towels beautiful. They used what they had to beautify their homes and their lives. They did not run off to the store to buy the latest greatest thing. Their gifts of time and talent were personal.
