Autumn Has Arrived!

Outside my window; blue and white and orange construction flags are a waving. They are tearing up the road that runs in front of our home to put in a new road with curb and gutter. The next forty days will leave me without a front door, driveway, mailbox and periodic power failures. In the end however, we will have a curb and I will no longer have to cringe as people drive onto my yard to turn the corner or park in the grass off the road! Another benefit to this inconvenience is that the two large bushes I have wanted to get rid off for the last three summers will be pulled out by the city to work on the road.

I am thinking; about my grandparents and how they met. I heard the story for the first time this weekend. My grandmother was working at her uncles farm over the summer. She happened to answer the phone one day. It was my grandfather who had hitched rides all the way from Montana to visit his brother who lived in the farm down the road from my grandmothers uncle. Grandpa's brother did not have a phone so he wanted grandma to go and let his brother know that he had made it to town and needed him to come pick him up. By the time my grandmother made it to the neighbors farm with the news, my grandpa had hitched a ride from town and was already there. My dad says he can tell me the exact spot where they met in the driveway still owned by his relatives.

I am thankful; for my husband who knew that I needed a pick me up and brought me home flowers today.

From The Kitchen; A wonderful new recipe! Garbonzo bean soup. I really wasn't sure if we would like this but it was a big fit at our small group dinner tonight.
