Monday Feb. 2, 2009

Monday Feb. 2, 2009

Outside my window the sun is shining but the temperature is falling! On Saturday we almost made it to 50 degrees! It was semi surreal standing outside in spring jackets on two feet of snow trimming our apple trees. Winter is not over according to Punxsutawney Phil. Its six more weeks of winter for us.

I am thinking about the 33 year old mother who just had octuplets. The bigger story has become the fact that this mother already has six children bringing her total to 14 children, all conceived by in vetro fertilization. Apparently this woman lives at home with her mother and father. There are so many things wrong with this on either side of the argument that I don't know where to start. It is a good example of the slippery slope of ethics.

I am thankful for God will complete the work that he started in me! Sometimes, (usually) sanctification is a painful process but we walk in obedience and G-d always keeps his promises. Beth Moore says that the hope of the bible is radical hope. We should expect G-d to show up in our lives and situations!

From the learning room; We have finally finished G.H. Henty's, The Young Carthaginian. Another great historical fiction novel. The kids were on the edge of their seats right up to the end when he wrapped it up all together and threw in a surprise. We are going to start The Hobbit this week. Last fall we went to the children's theater and saw this in production.

From the kitchen; I am still working on my menu for this week.

T - roast chicken, salad,

W - tacos

T h - chicken quesidillas

FR - homemade pizza

I am wearing a chocolate long sleeve t shirt, tan skirt, and chocolate boots

I am creating valentines cookies. We are baking them up for our children's Sunday school program to decorate and we will then take the treats to the woman and children's shelter in our town.

I am going to coop this afternoon. We need to make a run out to the dairy to pick up milk, eggs, and hamburger. We will be having dinner with our small group tonight at another couples home.

I am reading the guide to the 6th grade son light history curriculum

I am praying for my husband and his business. He has so far not suffered from a downturn that so many others are seeing in their industries and we are thankful to God for his continued provision.

I am hearing the fluttering of canary wings. It is very still and quite in my house as I am the only one in it right now.

Around the house; We pruned the apple trees, plum tree and one of the maple trees in the back yard. It was almost painful to watch my husband cutting off all those branches. In the case of the apple trees they actually look worse now. Pruning apple trees is not about looks, it is about producing fruit. It is the same with our children. It hurts us to prune them, sometimes it looks worse than it did before we started but oh the fruit faithful parenting produces!

One of my favorite things my white enamel farm bowls. I have three different sizes and just love them. Whenever I touch them I am transported back in time and feel like I should be on a huge wrap around porch shucking peas wearing a house dress. Can you tell what I romanticize!

A few plans for the rest of the week; all the usual culprits in all the usual places!
