A Snow Day

A snow day is special because is does not happen often. When a snow day occurs, the snow brings with it such joy and fun that you can not help but be swept up by it. The children will be in their snow suits and boots, layered with hats and scarves and outside at first light. When they get cold they will come in and enjoy a wonderful cup of home made hot chocolate. There clothes will not have even had time to dry when they will be back out the door, still rosy cheeked and smiling with exhilaration. Sleds will be drug out and snow boards found. Snow balls will be made and thrown and buckets turned into forms to create the perfect snow fort. Bodies will be exhausted from walking up the snow hills over and over just to experience the ride down that same hill again and again. After they are warmed up and dried off, their tired heads will lay down and they will sleep soundly until morning.

A snow day is special because it is one of the few events that will cause the entire populace to shut down. The cars stay off the roads, the malls close so that shoppers will stay home and employees will remain safe. Schools close and there is a general hush in the air. All is quiet except the sound of snow falling and children laughing. Standing outside, you will occasionally smell the faint whiff of a fire warming a hearth and marvel that in the quiet and magic of the snow you and yours are safe and warm.
